The majority of people at the meeting requested the basketball courts NOT be placed exactly where the Master Revised Plan shows. At the very least we asked that the courts be placed toward the back of the park because of the noise factor. Additionally, as an FYI on the lights, the company that installed them wanted to put lights at the tennis courts too, but the city wouldn't allow it. Also, Brie, the basketball hoops were lowered at the same time the lights were installed, which is why we see all four courts active now. Having grown up with it as an extended play area, I am truly appreciative. I wish that I had more openings in my schedule to attend all meetings but alas, my time is limited, a sentiment to which many can relate. I would like to offer some feedback, as a swatch of dirt is being dug up in the playground at this very moment. To add some feedback, the address of Ethel Furman Park is identified as 37th street. As Chimborazo lies in between 29th and 30th, it is more than three blocks away. I recognize that there are many exciting aspects of the park planned. However, I would still like to argue the need for two rather than merely one basketball court. The courts are an attraction for many in the neighborhood and despite absurdly high hoops and other inadequate equipment, there are still many that come to the playground on a warm day to play basketball. I know many interests are being voiced as well as diligently incorporated into the evolving master plans for the park. I just ask that we continue to remember that Chimborazo is a community park. That should not cost much to install and maintain. Can we also try to keep the basketball court toward the middle of the playground area away from the houses as much as possible? The new lighting at the playground looks great!!! Will there be lighting for the tennis court too once that is all done? There are oftentimes when both courts are in use for basketball games.
