About

The Friends of Chimborazo Playground is a new grassroots organization seeking to improve the safety and beauty of the playground and recreation area at Chimborazo Park. We’re seeking new members; anyone can join and membership is free.

Located between North 29th and 31st Streets and East Grace Street, the Chimborazo Park playground and recreational area contains a playground, four basketball courts, a tennis court and a storage facility. The playground and recreational area is part of the greater Chimborazo Park, located a block away at 32nd and E. Broad Streets.

Over the past several years, the playground area had fallen into disrepair. The playground had become a nighttime haven for prostitution, drug use and potential assaults.

Then, a group of neighbors got together and decided to take action. We formed the Friends of Chimborazo Playground and began working with police and parks officials to step up patrols and clean up the park. Thanks to community volunteers, the Church Hill Association and individual donors, the park features new lighting and other improvements to make it a safer, more enjoyable place for everyone.

We’re inviting everyone to join and share their ideas for making the playground and recreation area a safe, beautiful place for community members of all ages to play, gather and enjoy. Become a member today »
